Ashley Darby is known to stir the pot on The Real Housewives of Potomac. However, in more recent seasons, Darby has taken a backseat to the drama amongst her co-stars, focusing on growing her family and motherhood. But that doesn’t man fans of the show don’t remember Darby’s most messy days.

Recently, a social media post featuring a montage of some of the most explosive moments on the show sparked a question: Why doesn’t Darby get called out as much as Candiace Dillard Bassett for bad behavior.
Dillard-Bassett has been accused of having a sharp tongue then crying wolf when a co-star dishes it back. She’s accused Darby of exaggerating the devastation of suffering a miscarriage and held a knife in an argument with Darby. She’s also gone toe-to-toe with co-stars on Twitter, and who can forget the infamous physical altercation between her and Monique Samuels that left Dillard Bassett in tears every episode while trying to force her co-stars to choose her side.
Many say Dillard Bassett deserves what she gets and equates her verbal lashings to be just as damaging as physical fighting. But she disagrees.
One fan says Darby is equally as messy as Dillard Bassett, noting the early seasons of Darby spreading gossip and constantly questioning her co-star’s love lives. A user noted in the comments of @alltruetea, “This reel shows how reckless Ashley’s mouth has been and still is. Yet Candiace was the villain and ganged up on by so many fans. It’s crazy how Ashley was in my opinion worse but people want to ignore that. I wonder why???? ”
As for why Darby doesn’t get the same backlash as Dillard Bassett, she says it’s because of Darby’s skin color.
“Because she’s light-skinned. There. It was said. I said it. Now, let’s see how fast it gets around,” per Madame Noire’s report.
Some agree with Dillard Bassett. One fan wrote, “Candiace got on my nerves last season but this is true. Even see in the new trailer, the new girl (lighter skin) threw salad first but everyone in the comments saying see Candiace ain’t learned her lesson” – referring to the upcoming season that chronicles Dillard Bassett getting into it with newcomer Mia Thornton.
