Roger E. Mosley Dies At 83 Following Car Crash; 'Magnum P.I.' Star Remembered In Touching Tributes

Original Magnum P.I. star Roger E. Mosley died over the weekend following a major car accident. The actor’s daughter, Ch-a, confirmed the news of his death on Facebook August 7.

Mosley appeared on various television series throughout the 1970s and 1980s, including Love Boat, Night Gallery, Sanford and Son, Kung Fu and Night Court. However, his most notable role was starring as helicopter pilot Theodore “T.C.” Calvin, opposite Tom Selleck, on the original Magnum P.I. for its entire eight-year run from 1980 to 1988.

According to his daughter, the actor died "surrounded by family."

In a statement shared to Facebook on August 7, Mosley’s daughter, Ch-a, wrote:

“Roger E. Mosley, my father, your friend, your ‘coach Mosley’ your “TC” from Magnum P.I., passed away at 1:17am. He was surrounded by family as he transcended peacefully.”

Noting that she and her family “could never mourn such an amazing man,” Ch-a said her father “would HATE any crying done in his name.”

“It is time to celebrate the legacy he left for us all. I love you daddy. You loved me too. My heart is heavy but I am strong,” she added. “I will care for mommy, your love of almost 60 years. You raised me well and she is in good hands. Rest easy.”

Mosley died just days after a car accident left him "paralyzed from the shoulders down"

On August 6, Mosley’s daughter shared on Facebook that the actor had been in a “major car accident” that left him “paralyzed from the shoulders down.”

“Every effort is being made to care for him during this time. And he is constantly accompanied by family and friends,” Ch-a wrote. “This is a VERY hard time for us as we all know Roger to be a lion, the king of everywhere he brought himself.”

Stephen Hill, who plays the new version of T.C. Calvin on the 'Magnum P.I.' reboot series, paid tribute to Mosley on Instagram.

Not long after Mosley’s daughter confirmed his death on August 7, actor Stephan Hill took to Instagram to honor the late trailblazer.

“Rest In Power to the King, Father, Husband, Friend, Trailblazer, Black Power-Man, Coach, Gentleman, Powerhouse Talent, and Mentor Roger E. Mosley,” he wrote on Instagram. “We have all been honored by the example of your life.”
