The 2016 Primtime Emmy Awards take place this Sunday, September 18, 2016, airing live on ABC, beginning at 7pm EST. But the Television Academy got things rolling on this year’s festivities with the Creative Arts Emmys, which were held over the weekend, on Saturday and Sunday night.
Of note, RuPaul Charles earned his very first Emmy Award (it was also his first nomination) for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program, for Logo’s “RuPaul’s Drag Race.”
“I really didn’t expect this,” Charles said after accepting the award. “I came here thinking I got invited to the prom and I’m going to dance my ass off tonight, but I didn’t expect that I would have this in my hand while I was dancing. It’s a very special night not just for me but for all the young people around the world who dance to the beat of a different drummer.”
“RuPaul’s Drag Race” has been on the air for 8 seasons.

The Creative Arts Emmys are a class of Emmy Awards commonly awarded to behind-the-scenes talents, like production designers, cinematographers, editors, etc, and also include awards for outstanding animated programs, outstanding commercial, competition, reality TV shows, and guest acting.
