'RuPaul's Drag Race' Star Shea Couleé Drops Janet Jackson-Inspired Video For 'Let Go & Your Name'

You know the original song, titled “Your Name” Shea Couleé performed on the legendary all-winners season of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 7? Well, the renowned drag superstar just released the track disco track on streaming platforms and dropped the official music video, “Let Go & Your Name”!

Although fans got a taste of the track on RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 7, the music video shows the heart and soul Couleé put into her new sound.

"My vision for this music video was to create a fantasy world that felt like an abstract nightclub from the future, but with a lot of 80’s Janet Jackson flair," she said.

Here’s more:

Directed by Couleé, the music video channels Janet Jackson with original Shea Couleé choreography for her and her backup dancers, accompanied by buttery vocals reminiscent of Luther Vandross. The six-minute video begins with “Let Go” in a neon warehouse with a color-changing LED ceiling, and in “Your Name” we are taken on a flirty chase with Couleé’s love interest.

Shea Couleé drew inspiration from several iconic artists for the music video.

In addition to Janet Jackson and Luther Vandross, Couleé drew inspiration from other legendary acts like Chaka Khan, Jody Watley and Shalamar, and Midnight Star. She also worked with producer Sam Sparro and musician GESS to create a new sound that fans haven’t heard from her before.

“For years, I have been working hard to cultivate music that harkens back to what I grew up with,” she said in a statement. “Before this, I had always aligned myself with contemporary music. It took me a while to finally find the right producers and collaborators to perfect this sound and all that goes into it—the energy, the texture, the essence—music with a lot of heart.”
