It’s not what you think. It’s not a reboot of Def Comedy Jam.
Russell Simmons has signed a two-year first-look deal with HBO.
So what does that mean exactly? Well, basically, HBO has the right of “first refusal” on projects Simmons proposes to develop. And if HBO, after “first looking” at a proposed project, isn’t interested and declines to back it, then Simmons can offer it up to other networks.
But it’s a “good look” nonetheless; after all, it’s not like any of us here is in a position to sign any first-look deals with HBO, or any other network.
So good luck to Mr Simmons!
What can we expect from this first-look deal? Time will tell…
