Ryan Destiny has been cast in grown-ish‘s upcoming Season 3 on Freeform.

The singer-actress, who wrapped up her principal role in Star after the Lee Daniels series’ cancellation on Fox, will join the Freeform comedy in a recurring capacity. Production on the new season began Monday.

Destiny will play Jillian, a transfer student to Cal U from an HBCU, studying filmmaking. The description reads: “Jillian can talk art and music with Luca (Luka Sabbat), politics and activism with Aaron (Trevor Jackson), and also fits right in with Zoey (Yara Shahidi) and her eclectic crew of girls.”

grown-ish follows Zoey (Shahidi), Dre (Anthony Anderson) and Rainbow’s (Tracee Ellis Ross) popular, entitled, stylish and socially active daughter from black-ish, in college. Shahidi is also joined onscreen by series regulars Trevor Jackson as Aaron Jackson, Jordan Buhat as Vivek Shah, Emily Arlook as Nomi Segal, Francia Raisa as Ana Torres, Chloe and Halle Bailey as Jazz and Star Forster, Deon Cole as Charlie Telphy, Luka Sabbat as Luca Hall and Diggy Simmons as Doug. The Bailey sisters and Sabbat were upped to series regulars for season 2 and Simmons will be a series regular in season 3.

The series produced by ABC Signature Studios and executive produced by Kenya Barris, Julie Bean, Jenifer Rice-Genzuk Henry, Craig Doyle, Anthony Anderson, Laurence Fishburne, Helen Sugland and E. Brian Dobbins.

Lee Daniels has stated that Star will have a television movie to wrap up its final storylines that were left open after the season 3 finale, but nothing about that has been made official.
