Sasha Obama is all grown up — and she has a boyfriend!
The news was confirmed by her mother — First Lady Michelle Obama — when she stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
“They loved the Jonas Brothers. Now they are bringing grown men home,” she said to the talk show host, whose show is in its final season. “Before it was just, like, pop bands. Now they have boyfriends and real lives.”
Now, Obama watchers know that Malia Obama has been boo’d up with Rory Farquharson for some time now. News18 reports that Farquharson first began dating the elder Obama daughter back in 2017, and they met at Harvard University. Farquharson is a native of Great Britain, and his family is quite affluent. His father is the CEO of his own investment firm, and his mother is a London-based accountant.
But who is the new boo of Sasha Obama?
As it turns out, his name is Clifton Powell, Jr., and he too comes from affluence of sorts. He might even look familiar to some of you, especially once you realize who his father is.

According to The Mirror, Sasha Obama met Clifton Powell Jr. when she transferred from the University of Michigan to the University of Southern California.
He is the son of a famous character actor
Moviegoers of a certain age remember Clifton Powell, Sr., as “Pinky” from the film Next Friday. But his most critically acclaimed role was in the film Ray, where he won an NAACP Image Award for his portrayal of Jeff Brown. “Pinky” has been married to his wife, Kimberly, for many years, and the pair share a son (Sasha Obama’s boyfriend) and a daughter together.
He was raised in Ladera Heights
Clifton Powell Sr.’s success aside, his wife Kimberly runs a successful interior design firm, according to The Daily Mail. Clifton Powell Jr. and his sister, May, were raised in the ritzy Los Angeles district of Ladera Heights, which is known as “The Black Beverly Hills” amongst native Angelinos.
Sasha Obama's boyfriend is a video director
According to his official website, he’s done commercials for the likes of Nike, Peloton, and the Madden 22 video game.
And he played basketball in college
Page Six reports that in 2016, he got a four-year scholarship to the University of California at Santa Barbara to play basketball. (And at 6-foot-5, he’s the perfect basketball player!) But after a year, he transferred out to focus on his true passion: filmmaking.
Clifton Powell Jr. also secured a television development deal
His passion for filmmaking has taken him far, because his official bio states that he’d secured a television development deal early on in his career. However, he didn’t go into much detail about what that entailed, or whether any of his television shows have come out of development.
