Screenings: Docs On Black WWII Heroes In Italy + Discrimination Against Italians Of African Descent

nullItalian filmmaker Fred Kuwornu kicked off what he calls Black History Month showing his two documentaries, Inside Buffalo and 18 IUS SOLI – one a film on black WWII heroes in Italy (specifically, the 92ndBuffaloDivision); the other on discrimination against Italians of African descent – examining race, ethnicity, and national identity in a newly multicultural Italy of the early 21st century, focusing on 18 young people who, despite having been born in Italy, do not have access to Italian citizenship because their parents came to Italy from Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.

18 Ius Soli was first highlighted on this blog 2 years ago, when it was set to premiere at BAMcinématek’s New Voices in Black Cinema. he also brilliantly 

Both films have been screening throughout the month of February, in Northeastern states primarily, thus far, with director Fred Kuwornu, supported by the Italian Cultural Institute, attending all screenings which were each followed by Q&A sessions with the filmmaker.
