See You Yesterday filmmaker Stefron Bristol is set to direct Breathe, a sci-fi thriller for Thunder Road Films. The script hails from Doug Simon and Will Flynn will serve as a executive producer.

Set in the near future where air supplt is scarce, Breathe follows a mother and daughter duo who are forced to fight for their survival when two strangers arrive desperate for oxygen filled haven.

“I am an artist who loves to make personal sci-fi movies about Black characters that are laced with social, political commentary and interpersonal wisdom,” Bristol said to Deadline. “Breathe will definitely encompass all of that. But, in the same vein, it’s going to be one of those movies that will manhandle your attention, attempt to rip your heart out of your chest, make you pray that these characters come out alive! It’s going to be legit. Straight up”

Bristol, a protege of Spike Lee, won the 2019 Independent Spirit Award for Best First Screenplay for See You Yesterday alongside co-writer Frederica Bailey. Lee also executives produced the Netflix film. Released in 2019, the film revolves around a prodigious teenage girl (Eden Duncan-Smith) and her friend (Danté Crichlow), who use time travel to prevent her brother from being killed by the police.
