Victoria Mahoney, who made history directing Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, will now direct upcoming Lionsgate action film Shadow Force, according to Deadline. Sterling K. Brown and Kerry Washington are set to star. Made with Love Media’s Stephen “Dr.” Love will produce along with Washington’s Simpson Street and Brown’s Indian Meadows Productions.

The film hails from writers Leon Chills and Joe Carnahan who have created a story about a husband and wife on the outs with each other, but are now the targets for bounty killers. Together with their son, they must try to stay away from their former shadow ops unit who is now tasked with killing them.

Along with Brown, Washington and Love, Pilar Savone for Simpson Street will also produce, with the film executive produced by Danielle Reardon for Indian Meadows. Katherine Atkinson and Jennifer Wiley-Stockton will also executive produce.

Erin Westerman, the president of production for Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, called Mahoney “one of the most impressive and in-demand directors working today.”

“Like with all of her work, she will bring iconic action, warmth, style, and gravitas to Shadow Force,” said Westerman. “We know she, along with Kerry and Sterling and the talented production team will elevate this exciting production.”

Washington and Brown also spoke highly of Mahoney in a statement. “We are absolutely thrilled to be working with Victoria Mahoney,” the said. “Her vision is inspiring. Her enthusiasm is infectious. Her artistry and insight have already deepened this electrifying project.”
