She’s Gotta Have It won’t be back for a Season 3 at Netflix, Shadow And Act has learned.

The series starred DeWanda Wise in a contemporary update of the revolutionary, debut independent film from 1986. She’s Gotta Have It centers on Nola Darling, a Brooklyn-based artist in her late twenties struggling to define herself and divide her time amongst her friends, her job and her three lovers: the cultured model, Greer Childs, the protective investment banker, Jamie Overstreet, and da original B-Boy sneakerhead, Mars Blackmon.

Anthony Ramos, Ilfenesh Hadera, Cleo Anthony, Lyriq Bent, Margot Bingham, Chyna Layne and Fat Joe also starred.

We hear that the show is expected to be shopped elsewhere, and that like most Netflix series renewals, this decision came down to viewers vs. production cost.

“Spike Lee is one of the greatest filmmakers of all time and we’re thrilled he brought the series She’s Gotta Have It (1986, based on his first feature film) to Netflix. While this is our last season, we’re very proud that it will be on our service for years to come, and excited to be working with Spike on his upcoming Netflix film Da 5 Bloods,” said Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos in a statement received by Shadow And Act.

Lee’s upcoming feature, Da 5 Bloods, which will star Chadwick Boseman, will be his fourth Netflix collaboration following She’s Gotta Have  It,  Roger Guenveur Smith’s one-man show Rodney King and Stefon Bristol’s See You Yesterday, which he produced.
