Showtime and BET have launched the joint channel SHOxBET Wednesday in an effort to continue to provide content to Black audiences.

The new Showtime plex channel, previously branded as SHO Beyond, is yet another way ViacomCBS is pooling its multiple brands’ various strengths together to create more mass appeal. BET Networks president Scott Mills told Variety that the new channel “is really a reflection of taking those complementary elements to the next logical conclusion. And that is, both platforms really understand premium programming to African American viewers and people who value content that is anchored in African American narratives and African American stories.”

The new channel will include same-night airings of Showtime’s popular programming such as Desus & Mero, The Chi and Black Monday as well as new Showtime programming like The Good Lord Bird. BET’s Back to the Goode Life, Madiba and Keys to the City will be among some of the titles available, as well as debuts of films like Waves and An Acceptable Loss. Documentaries, sports series and stand-up specials will also be featured, with Mo’Nique and Eddie Griffin being named dropped as two comedians whose specials will factor into the channel.

The corporate synergy of Viacom and CBS, which officially re-merged together late last year, was first noticed between Showtime and BET when BET’s Twenties aired on Showtime as a part of its Emmy FYC campaign. Last month, for the first time, CBS simulcast the BET Awards as well.

After the country wrangles in COVID-19, there are plans for discussing original programming specifically made for SHOxBET.
