We already told you about Showtime's plans for a Suge Knight documentary, directed by Antoine Fuqua; but a documentary on the life of Richard Pryor as well? News to me…

Announced by the network today at the Winter 2012 Television Critics Association Press Tour, Showtime's President Of Entertainment David Nevins said that the cabler planned to invest heavily in what he called “branded, high-impact filmmaker documentaries” in 2012, with Fuqua's Suge Knight project being one of those already in development, though no word on when it can be expected to debut.

Nevins also mentioned that a project on the life of late comedian Richard Pryor is in the works, adding that details are still being worked out with Pryor’s family, but they are making progress.

He didn't reveal anything further than that – specifically who'll be directing it, and when we can expect it.

Worth noting is that there are other Richard Pryor projects at various stages of development; there's the Chris Rock-produced Richard Pryor feature film that Marlon Wayans was attached to star in; although I'm not sure if it's still alive and where it stands (little has been reported on it); and then there is the stage production from Rod Gailes OBC,  titled UNSPEAKABLE: a dramatic fantasia. exploring what he describes as "the tragic genius" of comedian Richard Pryor. 

I know that continues to be workshopped.

We'll have to wait and see where Showtime's documentary fits in all this.
