Showtime Sets Air Date For Larry Wilmore's 'Race, Religion & Sex' (Could Lead To Series)

As was announced in February, funnyman Larry Wilmore (known most as The Daily Show's "Senior Black Correspondent") has a few new TV projects on the horizon.

First… Wilmore signed on to co-star opposite Mike Vogel in a new Fox comedy pilot titled Living Loaded. Said to be based on a book of the same name by Dan Dunn, Living Loaded centers on Dan (Vogel), "the loose partying blogger of the popular Living Loaded blog who is forced to change his career plans when he becomes an NPR radio host."

Wilmore was to play a character named Leonard, "a thoughtful and reserved Black intellectual whose dream of hosting his own NPR show is crushed when Dan is brought in as his co-host."

Anna Maria Horsford was also reported to be part of the cast, playing a "painfully shy NPR executive."

Second… Wilmore reportedly penned a comedy script for CBS as a potential starring vehicle for Martin Lawrence (likely one of the 2 CBS projects Lawrence was at one time mulling over).

And finally, Wilmore was said to be prepping a comedy special for the Showtime cable TV network, which was picked up finally last month.

Larry Wilmore’s Race, Religion And Sex, will be a one-hour comedy special shot in Salt Lake City, Utah, in front of a live audience, and starring Wilmore of course, in which he explores issues dealing with race, religion and sex through comedy, satire and political commentary.

Showtime is said to have ordered just 1 special for now, with word being that it could be a launching pad for full series – likely depending on how well the first one does with audiences.

The hour-long Race, Religion & Sex will air on August 25
