After lots of speculation, it was announced at Disney's Investor Day that Whoopi Goldberg will indeed return to star in Sister Act 3. Also, Tyler Perry will be a producer on the film, which is set for Disney+.
In 2018, it was first announced that Insecure co-executive producer Regina Hicks and mixed-ish showrunner Karin Gist (who was on Fox's Star at the time) were on the script. No other details are known and a director has not been attached at any stage.
Back in 2018, Goldberg also said, "We've been all over Disney begging. They've decided that they're going to go in a different direction with Sister Act. It won't be Sister Act 3. It will be a brand new rendition of Sister Act, and I guess I'll walk through a scene and that's how they'll say I was a part of it."
