It looks like The CW wants in on the Regina King business. The Oscar and Emmy winner is producing, Slay, a series that is in development at the network. The project is from CBS Television Studios, written by Julian Johnson. Pam Veasey is supervising.
The potential series would focus on Carson Jones, "a bold, witty teenager with afro puffs, leather boots, seventies cool, and – thanks to her mother’s ancient African bloodline – supernatural gifts and the responsibility to use them to protect Virginia’s Historic Triangle (one of the most haunted areas in the country) from the forces of darkness."
King and her sister, Reina King, will executive produce through their Royal Ties Productions banner. Veasey is also an executive producer with Johnson as a co-executive producer.
Slay is the latest collaboration between Veasey and King. Veasey wrote the ABC pilot The Finest, starring Tisha Campbell and Amirah Vann. King directed it and she and Veasey both executive produced. The project was not picked up to series.
King, who just won an Emmy for Watchmen, has a lot of Oscar buzz for her feature directorial debut, One Night in Miami.
