If you can remember correctly, A24 (distributors of Moonlight) were developing a horror film starring Chance the Rapper titled Slice.

Chance himself tweeted a quick 19-second teaser with the news a year ago today, and a year later, also on Halloween, we’ve got more details and another teaser.

The film was shot in secret during Summer 2016. It is Chance (real name Chancellor Bennett)’s feature film debut.

Other stars are Atlanta star Zazie Beetz, Stranger Things star Joe Keery and Paul Scheer.

Austin Vesely – who’s directed many of Chance’s videos – is the director. Vesely did reveal in a July 2015 interview with Red Eye Chicago, that the film is a “murder mystery” that will see Chance play a werewolf named Dax Lycander, a former Chinese food delivery driver who finds himself at the center of an investigation into a series of murders. In addition, the story will take place in an alternate universe that “has these supernatural elements that people accept as reality.” Vesely also told Pigeons and Planes in 2016 that it was inspired by Twin Peaks.

It will take place in a “supernatural alternate reality” where ghosts and werewolves are commonplace, but the overall tone will be surreal comedy.

It was shot in Chicago. Vesley told P&P: “I don’t think his actual character is similar to either the Harry Lime character or The Joker, but their use within the films was interesting to me. I wanted to make Chance’s first screen appearance exciting.”
