Freeform, Yara Shahidi and Keri Shahidi’s 7th Sun Productions and Disney Television Studios’ ABC Signature are developing the new comedy series, Smoakland. The deal comes out of their first-look pact with ABC Studios. 

Centered around Solo, an astute cannabis entrepreneur, Smoakland will chronicle the Oakland native’s quest to ascertain new heights in the cannabis industry as she balances the stress of new friendships, love and burdensome family expectations.

Jewel Coronel, a co-executive producer for The Chi and former writer for second and third seasons for Fox’s Star will serve as the writer and executive producer. Zahir McGhee (Scandal, Stumptown, Private Practice, For The People, and Harlem’s Kitchen) will also serve as an executive producer. The Shahidis executive produce as well. Disney Television Studios’ ABC Signature is the studio. 

Shahidi can be currently seen on the third season of grown-ish on Freeform. She’ll be seen on the big screen soon as Tinkerbell in Disney’s live-action Peter Pan & Wendy Film.
