If you were excited about the prospect of Spike Lee possibly directing Sony’s upcoming Marvel project Nightwatch, get ready to feel let down. ScreenRant is reporting that despite Lee’s talks with Sony to direct, Lee will not direct Nightwatch. When ScreenRant asked if he would be creating his Black superhero adventure with Nightwatch, the filmmaker responded with, “Nah.”

If Lee had directed Nightwatch, it would have united him with Luke Cage writer Cheo Hodari Coker.

The script would focus on Black scientist Dr. Kevin Trench and his ascent into superherodom after getting a highly-advanced suit from a future version of himself.

This is the latest blow to Sony’s limited Marvel universe. This August it was released that Gina Prince-Bythewood wouldn’t direct the Black Cat/Silver Sable film Silver & Black (which is being split into two films) but will still stay on as a producer.
