Spike Lee says he will not be entering a movie theater or starting up a film production as long as the coronavirus is a threat.
The director, whose Vietnam War film Da 5 Bloods will debut on Netflix, told IndieWire that he is not starting production on his adaptation of Prince of Cats until it is safe to do so.
“They ain’t doing a thing until the vaccine,” he said to the outlet. “I know I’m not going to a movie theater. I know I’m not going to a Broadway show. I know I’m not going to Yankee Stadium. Corona is a b***h. Corona is not playing. You f**k around you’re going to get killed, you’re going to die. I’m not ready to go.”
“How are you going to do a love scene anymore, or an intimate scene?” he continued after saying he doesn’t see a workable solution to filmmaking during the pandemic. “I mean, are you going to do a movie by remote, like ‘Saturday Night Live’? I don’t know how you do that. So, we’re on pause now.”
Da 5 Bloods comes to Netflix June 12.
