South Africa's Gauteng Film Commission (GFC) develops, promotes and coordinates the film and television production industry in what is said to be South Africa's wealthiest province, tasked with positioning the province as a world-class destination for filmmaking, as well as attracting local and international investments in the film and television industry there.

Last fall, we announced plans by the Commission to create necessary awareness about its programs and ensuring brand visibility, making the decision to publicly announce the projects the Commission supports.

One of the feature films that the GFC is providing production support for, which Mzwandile Masina, the GFC’s chief executive officer says he's "very excited about," is a crime drama titled His Majesty’s Building.

The project comes from Mind Your Head Films in association with Happy Brown Babies Productions, and is described as follows:

Freddie who falls to his death from a high-rise building in Johannesburg. Lieutenant Fitzpatrick’s detective unit finds a note in Freddie’s loft, and the case is closed as a suicide. But Freddie’s lover, Maria, hires private eye Dicke Dibe to investigate what she believes is a case of murder. A postmortem reveals a gunshot wound to Freddie’s head. Dicke suspects Freddie was shot, then thrown off the building, and is determined to find the killer before he, or she, strikes again.

The GFC provided post-production support for His Majesty’s Building, which is written and directed by Nhlanhla Masondo, produced by Sifiso Khanyile, and stars Luthuli Dlamini, Justin Strydom, Thishiwe Ziqubu, Jaques De Silva, Monageng Motshabi, Usha Khan, Denver Vraagom, Mayenzeke Baza, Ephrahim Gordon and Antonio Lyons.

The filmmakers tell me that the film is just about complete and will premiere in Johannesburg in early March.
