The world was heartbroken when the news of rapper DMX’s passing broke in April 2021. While most of the world mourned his passing over a year ago, it appears that Clueless actress Stacey Dash may have been out of the loop.
This week, the actress turned self-proclaimed political pundit took to TikTok to share the anguish she felt after learning the Ruff Ryders frontman had succumbed to his drug addiction over a year ago. She opened up about her own struggle with the disease and asked viewers who may struggle with addiction to keep fighting.
“I was strolling [sic] through #tiktok and found a #DMX song that has saved me many times,” Stacey Dash wrote in the video’s caption. “Suddenly it says #RIP i know I am late, I did not know he passed away. He #OD I am heartbroken – he was such a great guy.”
In the video, Dash could be seen visibly upset and fighting back tears.
“OK ya’ll I’m ashamed, I didn’t know DMX died,” Dash said at the top of the video. “I didn’t know from a cocaine overdose.”

She went on to share that she’s over six years sober as “You Don’t Know” by Kim Hitt played in the background.
“I am today six years and one month clean,” Dash declared. As she gasped for air, she said DMX’s passing “breaks my heart.”
“He lost to it,” she added. “He lost to that demon of addiction.”
Dash then ended the video with a plea to viewers who may be battling addiction to “not lose.”
Some viewers praised Dash’s sobriety and wished her well.
“Awww Stacey! Addiction is one of the hardest things to overcome. You did and we love that you’re still here with us,” one TikTok user wrote.
“Stay strong my sister my prayers are with you,” another commented.
One viewer even called Dash their “inspiration.”
“We love you Stacey. Please stay strong for us. You are our inspiration,” they wrote.
But others weren’t as kind, and questioned how Dash didn’t know that DMX was no longer with us.
“This brings in a whole new meaning to ‘Clueless,'” one user wrote with a laughing emoji.
“Girl, where have you been,” a viewer asked.
“God forgive but that background music got me dying bruh,” added another.
One viewer expressed concern about Dash’s well-being
“I’m so confused .. I don’t know if I’m supposed to be concerned, or upset,” they wrote.
Dash clapped back at a few of the unkind comments, calling one user a “joker.”
“Question. Yo! How can so many people not have ears to HEAR,” she wrote back to a TikTok user who noted that DMX passed over a year ago.
DMX, whose real name was Earl Simmons, died on April 9, 2021, of a cocaine-induced heart attack after spending seven days in White Plains Hospital in critical condition. He was laid to rest in Yonkers, New York, in late April.
