“Jeepers Creepers” is a 2001 horror film written and directed by Victor Salva, and executive produced by Francis Ford Coppola, starring Gina Philips and Justin Long as a pair of siblings who become targets of a demonic creature known as The Creeper.
The movie, made for around $10 million, went on to gross close to $60 million worldwide, after breaking the then record for the highest ever Labor Day opening weekend four-day gross. And it held that record until 2003, when its sequel, “Jeepers Creepers 2” opened. It too was directed by Victor Salva, and executive produced by Coppola, and set 3 days after the events of the first film, as a championship basketball team’s bus is attacked by The Creeper, the winged, flesh-eating terror. Made for $17 million, “Jeepers Creepers 2” grossed over $63 million worldwide.
A third “Jeepers Creepers” movie is now in the works – “Jeepers Creepers 3”- and it too will be directed by Victor Salva, with, once again, Coppola executive producing. This one will be set 23 years after the events of the first two films, as a task force is assembled to (hopefully) destroying The Creeper for good. Maybe this time will be the last for The Creeper.
Announced today, Stan Shaw is set to star in “Jeepers Creepers 3.” Shaw is one of those actors who’s been around for decades, whose face you’ll likely recognize, even if you don’t immediately recall his name. One of his most notable roles was his appearance as Alex Haley’s maternal grandfather in the 1979 miniseries “Roots: The Next Generations.” He also appeared in “The Great Santini” (1979) with Robert Duvall and David Keith, as well as “Fried Green Tomatoes,” “Houseguest” (opposite Sinbad), and appeared as a pirate in “Cutthroat Island” (1995) with Geena Davis. His television credits include episodes of “Starsky & Hutch,” “Matlock,” “Murder, She Wrote,” “The X-Files,” and “CSI.” He most recently appeared in an episode of “Criminal Minds.”
Jonathan Breck will reprise his role as the Creeper and Brandon Smith returns as Sergeant Davis Tubbs.
Francis Ford Coppola’s American Zoetrope, which produced the first two films, will co-produce along with Odyssey Media, and The Cartel.
