Star Antonia Thomas Says 'Misfits' Movie Has Been Shelved... At Least For Now

nullAssuming she’s right, this might  excite fans of the series, one that’s crossed and established a healthy fan-base right here in the USA, as more folks continue to discover it.

After years of talk of a movie based on the hit British TV series "Misfit," one of the early stars of the series, Antonia Thomas (photo above-left, alongside co-start Nathan Stewart Jarrett), revealed in and interview with the UK’s Radio Times, that plans for a feature film adaptation of the series had been shelved – at least, for now: “There was all sorts of talk about it. We read scripts and I think it’s now not happening. I haven’t heard anything. I think it’s just difficult to get everybody together. Everybody is doing such different things. Maybe they think everybody has moved on, I don’t know. You never say never but I have not heard anything of it of late. It was a really cool script, kind of getting the old gang back together, it could have been a lot of fun.”

So obviously, it’s not an absolute certainty that the film adaptation is history, but it’s been 2 years since we last heard anything about it – specifically, in a 2012 interview , the show’s creator, Howard Overman, talked the status of a "Misfits" movie he’d been working on: "I’ve written the first draft of the script and we’ll see what happens… If it happens, it will involve past and present characters, I’m not allowed to give away anything more than that…"

And he didn’t give much away, which is understandable, and danced around the questions the interviewer asked, eventually flat-out saying that he couldn’t talk about it, except to say that a film adaptation was definitely in development.

Again, that was 2 years ago. I haven’t read/heard anything about the potential project since then.

You might recall talk of a potential USA remake of the series for American audiences, but there hasn’t been any news on that in a long time (at least, nothing that’s been made public). Fans of the original rebuffed the idea, as I remember, so maybe it’s been shelved.

One thing I am glad about is that plans for the film will see it focus on the "old gang" as Antonia Thomas put it. I really dug the early seasons/cast of the series, but started to lose interest once the "old gang" begun exiting (moving onto other projects), and new faces and stories were introduced.

Stay tuned…
