Story + Release Plans for Roger Bobb's All-Women Action Comedy, 'Grown Girls Getaway'

nullAn update to a feature project I’m told is currently shooting, which we first alerted you to 3 weeks ago. Specifically, the story that the film tells, as well as what its distribution/exhibition plans are; according to director Roger Bobb, "Grown Girls Getaway" is about "four friends who take a trip to the Caribbean to celebrate two of their friends’ birthdays. One thing leads to another and they get into a bit of trouble. They all lose their passports and money and end up owing a guy $10,000. Bobb also shares that the finished product will air on later this year on TV One, which could make it a rare original scripted feature-length project for that TV network. The original post follows below with cast info and more…

Roger Bobb is set to direct the female African American buddy action comedy, "Grown Girls Getaway" starring Garcelle Beauvais, Terri Vaughn, Malinda Williams and Essence Atkins in Trinidad and Tobago later this month.

The film centers around four long time bff’s who take a Caribbean bonding vacation only to be greeted with big fun and looming danger.

null "Grown Girls Getaway" pairs Bobb with long time associate Angi Bones, Executive VP of Bobbcat Films.  Together Bobb and Bones have produced 11 box office hits and number of hit TV shows such as House of Payne, Meet the Browns and Rickey Smiley Show.

Described as a “Waiting to Exhale” meets “Hangover” , "Grown Girls Getaway" written by Cas Sigers is a co production between Bobb’s BobbCat Films and Siger’s and Vaugn’s Nina Holiday Entertainment. Imagine Media International helmed by Lisa Wickham is the Trinidad and Tobago production company.  Wickham also serves as producer along with co-producers Valencia Hawkins and Sherrese Moise.

The film is facilitated by the Trinidad and Tobago Film Company under the TTFC’s rebate program.  “Trinidad had a very attractive film rebate program so my producers and I explored the possibilities and concluded it was a partnership filled with great promise”, according to Bobb whose family roots are in Guyana.

According to the website the TTFC has recently enhanced it’s competitive rebate program with a view towards attracting International producers to Trinidad & Tobago. The production expenditure rebate program now provides cash rebates up to 50% for expenditures on  qualifying local labor and 35% on other local expenditures.

Roger’s BobbCat Films has been quite busy since helming a series of films and television shows under Tyler Perry Studios. In the works is a reality series for BET called Meet The Mann’s starring David and Tamela Mann about their life as “the first family of gospel”, a television film also on BET called” Let The Church Say Amen” which will air later this year and The Rickey Smiley sitcom on TV One continues to do very well.
