The 2017 Sundance Film Festival has begun unveiling its lineup with today’s announcement of the 66 films selected for U.S. Competition, World Competition and NEXT sections. Scrubbing the list to identify titles to profile on this blog, given our interests, there’s an indie comedy feature picked up by Netflix titled “Deidra & Laney Rob a Train,” from director Sydney Freeland – her second feature film following the wide release of “Drunktown’s Finest” which premiered at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival.

“Deidra & Laney Rob a Train” is a comedy about two teenage girls who start robbing trains to make ends meet after their mom goes to jail.

Starring as the 2 teen girls are Ashleigh Murray and Rachel Crow as Deidra and Laney respectively.

They are joined by “Saturday Night Live’s” Sasheer Zamata, as well as Danielle Nicolet, Tim Blake Nelson, David Sullivan, and Arturo Castro.

Producers are Nick Moceri and Susan Cartsonis.

Freeland directed from a script penned by screenwriter Shelby Farrell.

Its Sundance 2017 appearance will be the film’s World Premiere.

Murray was most recently cast in the upcoming CW live-action “Archie” comics series, “Riverdale,” playing Josie McCoy. Meanwhile, Crow was last seen in the 2015 Disney Channel telepic, “Invisible Sister.”

No trailer yet for “Deidra & Laney Rob a Train, but we do have some fresh official images from the film above and following below.
