Sunny Hostin Says ABC Attempted To Censor Parts Of Her Memoir, Which Details Racism At Network

Sunny Hostin has a new memoir out, I Am These Truths, and in it, she details racism and discrimination she has faced at ABC News and The View. Those who are familiar with the situation already know that Hostin was named in a HuffPost expose detailing a pattern of discriminatory behavior by ABC News exec Barbara Fedida, who is said to have referred to The View co-host as "low rent."

Hostin stated in the memoir's foreward that ABC attempt to have these portions removed. She ended up lawyering up and this portions ended up staying in. “Deleting those passages didn’t feel right to me — they were all true, and they were some of the battle scars of my experience," she says in the book. “My television agent and my book agent emailed me to express confusion that a news organization would try to censor a Puerto Rican, African-American woman’s story while they were covering global demonstrations demanding racial equity.”

She also spoke about the attempted censorship in an interview with Ronan Farrow. Hostin didn't decided to write the foreward until she learned what Fedida allegedly said about her when the HuffPost article dropped. Among other claims, Hostin says that she was the only host to not get a formal announcement. “II was sort of guest hosting, guest-hosting, and then just… was there,' she said.

“I was censored by ABC in writing the book … I did remove some passages … I think they were concerned about how it made the network look,” she told Farrow. “I think I was treated differently than a white woman would have been treated. I was given a dressing room on a different floor, and I noticed that other co-hosts who came on after I came on were given dressing rooms on the main floor with everyone else. And while that seems like a small thing, it’s those little indignities that make … you wonder, ‘Am I being crazy? Am I being sensitive? Am I playing the race card?’”

I Am These Truths is now available everywhere.
