HBO Max has renewed Minx, Netflix announces Sweet Magnolias is coming back for a third season and Prime Video dropped a trailer for its upcoming series The Summer I Turned Pretty– all in today’s Shadow and Act news roundup.

'Minx' renewed at HBO Max

HBO Max has renewed Minx for a second season. The comedy from creator and showrunner Ellen Rapoport debuted in March on HBO Max to critical acclaim.

The series stars Ophelia Lovibond, Jake Johnson, Idara Victor, Jessica Lowe, Lennon Parham, Michael Angarano, and Oscar Montoya.

The official logline for the series:

MINX is set in 1970s Los Angeles and centers around Joyce (Ophelia Lovibond), an earnest young feminist who joins forces with a low-rent publisher (Jake Johnson) to create the first erotic magazine for women.

Rapoport commented on the renewel saying, “All of us at Minx have been blown away by the passionate response from audiences across the world, who have mashed-up, TikTok-ed and fanfic-ed us into a renewal. We are so grateful to our partners at HBO Max and Lionsgate for being true champions of the show, and for the opportunity to continue on this journey. Here’s to more chest hair, pussy bow blouses and tasteful nudes in Season 2.”

The series is executive produced by Rapoport alongside Paul Feig and Dan Magnante for Feigco Entertainment, Ben Karlin, and Rachel Lee Goldenberg. Jake Johnson serves as a co-executive producer.

'Sweet Magnolias' third season announced by Netflix

Netflix has announced that it has renewed Sweet Magnolias for a third season. The series stars JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Brooke Elliott, and Heather Headley are set to come back for season 3.

The official description of the charming Netflix series:

Sweet Magnolias follows lifelong best friends Maddie (JoAnna Garcia Swisher), Dana Sue (Brooke Elliott), and Helen (Heather Headley) as they juggle relationships, family, and careers in the charming small town of Serenity, SC.

The series is based on the popular series by New York Times best-selling author Sherryl Woods. Sheryl J. Anderson will serve as showrunner as well as executive producer with Dan Paulson and Woods.

'The Summer I Turned Pretty' trailer from Prime Video

Amazon’s Prime Video released the trailer for its upcoming series The Summer I Turned Pretty. The series is a multigenerational drama that follows a love triangle between one girl and two brothers, as well as the important relationship between mothers and their children, and the enduring power of strong female friendship.

The series stars Lola Tung, Jackie Chung, Rachel Blanchard, Christopher Briney, Gavin Casalegno, Sean Kaufman, Alfredo Narciso, and Minnie Mills, with Colin Ferguson and Tom Everett Scott.

Jenny Han and Gabrielle Stanton are the showrunners. They executive produce with Hope Hartman, Mads Hansen, and Nne Ebong for wiip. The series is a co-production of Amazon Studios and wiip.
