People usually have varied opinions about new film news, but this time, Twitter users from all walks of life united to hate on the news of Lena Dunham adapting a Syrian refugee story for film.

According to The Wrap, Steven Spielberg and J.J. Abrams have chosen Dunham to adapt Melissa Fleming’s A Hope More Powerful Than the Sea: One Refugee’s Incredible Story of Love, Loss and Survival. Fleming, the chief spokesperson for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, wrote the nonfiction book in 2017 about Doaa Al-Zamel, a woman who became one of the few survivors of a capsized boat of refugees in the Mediterranean. Film producer Arif Hussein is expected to executive produce with Spielberg and Abrams’ companies, Amblin Partners and Bad Robot, as producers.

It’s true that Dunham is not well liked by many online. There are many reasons for her bad reputation, one of them being when she simultaneously championed the Me Too movement while denigrating actress of color Aurora Perrineau’s rape accusations against Girls writer Murray Miller. But still, the immediate outrage over Dunham’s involvement with the story is something to behold. Here’s just a smattering of people who have unleashed their rage in 200 characters or less.
