It's crazy to think that first heard about American Crime Story: Katrina so long ago, and now, it's almost like we don't know anything more than we did then. — It was first revealed that American Crime Story: Versace would replace Katrina as the second installment and that a future installment would chronicle the Monica Lewinsky scandal. Reasons given for the switch include allowing time for the necessary digital effects that will be needed for Katrina as well as scheduling conflicts. Production was first supposed to start in fall 2016. Now, it seems like there is a possibility we may not see the Katrina anthology at all. Director and co-executive producer for the series' first installment, American Crime Story: The People vs. OJ Simpson, Anthony Hemingway spilled the details to The Hollywood Reporter during the TCA press tour. "That just kind of got stalled. We're all standing by waiting to find out what's happening. Nothing has really been done. We haven't started prep on it at all. Who knows? It's all up to Ryan Murphy," he said. Murphy's original plan to follow a group of six to eight people in an attempt to examine all sides of the tragedy, from the Superdome in New Orleans to the hospital, to those who were put on buses and dropped off with babies who had to wear trash bags for multiple days, and more. "I want this show to be a socially conscious, socially aware examination of different types of crime around the world," he said earlier. "And in my opinion, Katrina was a f—ing crime — a crime against a lot of people who didn't have a strong voice, and we're going to treat it as a crime. That's what this show is all about." The People vs. OJ cast member Sarah Paulson, Cuba Gooding, Jr. and Courtney B. Vance were set to return to star in Katrina with series newcomers Dennis Quaid, Annette Benning and Matthew Boderick.
