Congressman John Lewis will soon be the star of a new documentary.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, CNN Films, Trilogy Films and actress Erika Alexander’s Color Farm Media are set to bring a documentary on the civil rights activist and politician to the masses. Directed by Dawn Porter, the film started principal photography September 2018 as Lewis began his campaign for the U.S. midterms and continued throughout the first year of the 116th Congress, which saw a record number of women elected to public office.

“Her cameras captured a modern political thriller that unfolded as the nation lurched towards a record-setting government shutdown,” wrote the outlet. “The film will continue to follow the Congressman through 2019.” The film will also include archival footage and interviews with Lewis’ colleagues, political leaders and others who help shape Lewis’ life. Rare writings from Lewis as well as commentary from Lewis and his inner circle will also be included.

“John Lewis is a national treasure whose leadership paved the way for a generation,” said Porter. “In much the same way as his life and work have been shaped by great civil rights leaders, Congressman Lewis continues to serve the country, introducing legislation to protect our most fundamental rights.”

“There has never been a more urgent need for the type of moral and compassionate leadership that he embodies,” she continued. “I am excited to show the world how John Lewis continues to make what he calls ‘good trouble.'”

Amy Entelis, CNN Worldwide’s executive vice president of talent and content development and Courtney Sexton, vice president for CNN Films, said in a joint statement how CNN Films is “honored to be a part of telling Rep. John Lewis’ historic life through Dawn’s film.”

“We hope generations to come will learn from Mr. Lewis’ remarkable American story,” they said.

Sexton and Entelis are also executive producers for the film, as well as AGC Studios’ Stuart Ford and Rachel Traub. Producers include Porter Trilogy Films’ Laura Michalchyshyn and Alexander and Ben Arnon for Color Farm.
