Another day, another CBS legal drama. But this time around, the show is starring Simone Missick!

The former Luke Cage actress will star in the pilot Courthouse, according to Deadline. The show, directed by Mike Robin, written by Greg Spottiswood and hailing from Warner Bros. TV, “pulls back the curtain on the court system.” The show will follow “the dedicated, chaotic, hopeful and sometimes absurd lives of the judges, assistant district attorneys and public defenders as they work with bailiffs, clerks, cops and jurors to bring justice to the people of Los Angeles.”

Missick’s character, Lola, is a deputy district attorney who is now a new judge on the bench. In her previous career, Lola was already known as being impulsive and intimidating with an independent streak. But now as a judge, which comes with more power, she is willing to test her limits as to what a judge can do.

From the sound of it, it seems like Courthouse is falling in the vein of Chicago Fire, Chicago Med and 9-1-1 in that it will feature an ensemble cast that keeps the country’s various systems together while their lives are full of moving parts. As far as Courthouse is concerned, its ensemble cast includes CBS favorite Marg Helgenberger (formerly of CSI, Wilson Bethel, J. Alex Brinson and Jessica Camacho.

Courthouse will be executive produced by Spottiswood and Robin as well as Len Goldstein.

Missick has recently been cast in the second season of Netflix’s Altered Carbon with Anthony Mackie. She has also starred in Nijla Mu’min’s popular indie film Jinn opposite Zoe Renee.
