According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nick Cannon is deepening his relationship with Fox by working with Michael Davies, the executive producer of The Talking Dead, to create a weekly late-night talk show covering pop culture, celebrity interviews and music performances. Fox has also signed Cannon to an overall deal.

Out of the big four networks, Fox is the only one without a late-night talk show. Not that it hasn’t tried; according to The Hollywood Reporter, the network has given the green light to Chevy Chase, Joan Rivers, pre-Arsenio Show Arsenio Hall and Wanda Sykes, and none of them were successful in the long run.

Regarding primetime and late-night programming, Fox has been more successful with variety shows like American Idol and sketch comedy shows like Mad TV. With its record of successful variety and comedy shows, it makes sense to assume that Fox’s latest project, an American adaptation of The Masked Singer, also hosted by Cannon, would become an instant hit.

Davies’ production company, Embassy Row, is behind several aftershows and talk shows like the Dietland aftershow, Unapologetic with Aisha Tyler, Beyond Stranger Things and Bravo’s hit watercooler-like show for its slate of pulpy programming, Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. With the power of Davies behind this new talk show venture, Fox might finally have a talk show that will stand the test of time.
