French superstar Omar Sy is a busy man on both sides of the Atlantic, working on both Hollywood studio high profile movies like Inferno, Jurassic World and X-Men: Days of Future Past, as well as in French blockbusters like The Intouchables, as well as acclaimed films like Chocolat and Knock. The actor/comedian continues to line up eye-catching projects this year, and can now add this one to his to-do list. Antonin Baudry, celebrated author of the hit French comic strip Quai d'Orsay (illustrated by Christophe Blain) is making his film directorial debut with what the French press describe as an ambitious action-suspense movie titled Le chant du loup (Lit. The Song of the Wolf), which will star top European acting talent led by Omar Sy, Mathieu Kassovitz, Reda Kateb, François Civil, and Paula Beer. Details on the plot are being kept underwraps for now, but producers Jérôme Seydoux of Pathé and Alain Attal of Productions du Trésor, who say they have "high hopes" for the project, share that the story will take place in "the world of French nuclear submarines." Seydoux further teases with: "Extremely bright and political, Antonin Baudry came to see me with his movie idea set in the world of French nuclear submarines. It is a fictional film that tackles what is possible and what is not with submarines... From its script and the nature of the project, The Song of the Wolf belongs to a certain category of films that are no longer made, telling a story rarely told with high stakes, tension, suspense and a spectacular dimension." The producers appear quite excited about the project. "For a project of this magnitude, It was necessary to have major casting. (Producer) Hugo Sélignac first thought of Omar Sy. With him and Reda Kateb starring, the film will depict a picture of France as it looks today," adds producer Alain Attal. Attal is likely speaking to the diversity that makes up France today; Sy is black (Senegalese and Mauritanian); Kateb is Algerian, Czech and Italian; and Mathieu Kassovitz is white, original from Hungary. The film also has 2 female lead roles. The project is currently filming. When we know more, so will you. Omar Sy will next be seen in the French satire Knock, which is on the S&A 2018 Oscar predictions list; although it doesn't have US distribution yet. He's also signed up to star in acclaimed French-Algerian filmmaker Rachid Bouchareb's action comedy Belleville Cop, scripted by Larry Gross (Another 48 Hrs). Lionsgate has boarded the project.
