Photo: Aspire TV[/caption] There’s nothing quite like live music, but unfortunately it’s just not possible to see all of our favorite artists live. Some big lartists can host a world tour, but sometimes the most relatable, standout artists are smaller, up-and-coming musicians. Rather than just listen to their albums on repeat, however, there might be a solution coming soon for people looking to experience some of their favorite artists’ live performances. Thanks to Aspire TV’s new concert special, No Cover, we might just get a little closer to making that dream a reality. Aspire is a network that reflects, shares and celebrates aspects of black culture and urban lifestyle through shows like the cooking show Butter + Brown, ABFF Independent hosted by David Banner, and Magic in the Making, a show hosted by Magic Johnson interviewing various black newsmakers such as Misty Copeland and Simone Biles. There’s a little something for everyone, and No Cover will help fill another void in network TV. Earvin “Magic” Johnson is the driving force behind the brand, and it makes sure that the people and experiences of black or urban culture are centered in the inspiring, original content on the network. Whether you love reality TV, scripted series, indie films, comedies, documentaries or dramas — you’ll get pulled into something on the network. But for all the music-lovers looking for something new, No Cover is a series of one-hour concert specials that will feature up-and-coming artists. For the premiere on Tuesday, June 20 at 8 p.m., NOLA favorites Tank and The Bangas will be featured. If you’ve seen their NPR Tiny Desk Concert, which went viral after winning a 6,000-entry concert, you know how entertaining it is to watch the group work their magic. In addition to some of their layered, cutting-edge songs, the band will share some of the inspiration behind their music. Tank and The Bangas is a perfect first band to kick off the series this black music month, as they have a certain energy that sets them apart from anyone else — and that embodies their city of origin. Formed in 2011, they use spoken word, rock, gospel, funk, folk and soul influences to make their very own unique blend of creativity and inspiration, and their distinctive performance is sure to translate amazingly through the camera. And to celebrate black music month even more this June, Aspire will also be airing short videos of other up-and-coming artists on Aspire Jam Sessions, a digital companion series they’re also kicking off.
