His Tupac biopic “All Eyez on Me” now in his rear-view mirror, opening over the weekend to impressive numbers despite poor reviews, director Benny Boom has booked his next project – a cop thriller titled “The Shave.”

Thomas White and Miles Hubley wrote the provocative thriller (a 2015 Blacklist screenplay – aka, the best unproduced scripts circulating Hollywood in any given year, according to studio execs), about an LAPD officer recently exonerated in the murder of a black high school honor student. He visits the boy’s father at his barbershop to tell him his side of the story, as the father tells the cop his son’s life story, all while receiving a straight razor shave.

Route One Entertainment and Lost City are aboard to produce and finance “The Shave” alongside Chris and Eleanor Columbus of Maiden Voyage.

John Finemore, Mason Novick, and Michelle Knudsen are also set to produce, with Chris Lytton and James Hoppe acting as executive producers. Elizabeth Grave and Sophia Dilley will co-produce the venture.

Boom, who took over directing “All Eyez on Me” after Carl Franklin exited the project, is maybe best known a a music video director turned feature film director, who made his debut with 2009’s “Next Day Air.” Despite being attached to a number of features covered on this blog since then, he’s kept busy directing most music videos. But the surprise (to some) success of “All Eyez on Me” may suddenly change his fortunes.
