Taye Diggs has signed on for what Fox calls a major recurring role on next season of its hit series “Empire,” playing a character named Angelo Dubois, who is a city councilman from a respected and affluent New York family. Drawing comparisons to President Barack Obama’s earlier years, Mr. Dubois has a Harvard law degree, as well as a drive to do good in the world, and focuses his energy on community organizing, and local politics.

Diggs, who is currently starring in TNT’s anthology drama “Murder in the First,” joins a Season 3 cast that also includes newcomers French Montana and Birdman.  Diggs wrapped a recurring role on another Fox series, “Rosewood” last season.

Recently, Diggs wrote two children’s book, “Mixed Me!” and “Chocolate Me,” illustrated by Shane W. Evans and published by FSG in 2015. He also performed the role of Hedwig in the Broadway production of “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” at the Belasco Theatre from July 22, 2015 until the production’s closing on September 13, 2015.
