The Needle, an official selection of the 2012 New York Documentary Festival (DocNYC), premiered at the 2013 L.E.S. Festival (Independent Features and Shorts Made for Less) this past week.
Directed by Carmen Oquendo-Villar, the documentary follows Jose Quinones, a gay and transvestite middle-aged man who runs an underground cosmetic enhancement clinic from his home in Puerto Rico.
Here’s more about the film:
Quiñones’ improvised cosmetic clinic out of his modest home in Puerto
Rico. Quiñones offers inexpensive collagen treatments and life advice to
his largely LGBT clientele, in particular to Kelly and Maybelline who
seek refugee under his wings. But in spite of the tight bond he has
formed with his clients and neighbors, Jose is ready to mend wounds from the past and reach out to his estranged family who has never came to terms with his sexual identity.
