Terry Crews is in the hot seat once again after making controversial comments on Twitter on Sept. 1 about his beliefs surrounding his invitation to the cookout, the Black cookout that is.

What prompted the 53-year-old’s comments remains unheard, but Twitter was set ablaze with comments reminding Crews he probably was never invited to begin with.
“The best thing about being uninvited to the cookout Is you never drank the koolaid,” he Tweeted.

Is you never drank the koolaid
According to Atlanta Black Star, the idea of having a cult-like mentality and desire to fit in was birthed during the 1978 Jonestown Massacre. The mass murder-suicide of more than 900 people led by their religious leader Jim Jones took place after members took a toxic cocktail of valium laced with Flavor Aid drink, a cheaper version of the Kool-Aid brand. The term “drinking the Kool-Aid” typically refers to people eager to be part of the popular crowd.
But Black Twitter says Crews was never a popular one nor a wanted guest. Crews has been criticized for a number of things over the past years. Most recently, he caught backlash for not defending Gabrielle Union in her discrimination claims against NBC during the fallout of her firing from America’s Got Talent, which Crews was a host of.
Now, he’s on the receiving end of more backlash and it continues coming. Check out some of the responses to Crews' tweet below.
So now you’re reinforcing stereotypes against folks who look like you because they don’t want to be associated with you? Gotcha. pic.twitter.com/RxfvdjmIB4— Q aka “Fan not Stan”/“Troll Killa” (@motormouthsays) September 2, 2021

What Kool-Aid is that? Black women stood ten toes down for you after you shared how you were violated, and you couldn't even stand up for a sister and colleague being mistreated. This clearly haunts you and it will for the rest of your days.— The first of her name (@cdnscotchbonnet) September 2, 2021
