That Girl Lay Lay has been renewed for a second season, fresh off of its star’s NAACP Image Award nomination.

Nickelodeon has announced that it has greenlit a 13-episode second season starring social media star Alaya “That GirL Lay Lay” High. The first season “shattered records” with double-digit premieres and taking the number one spot repeatedly in the K6-11 age demographic. The series hails from Will Packer Productions. The second season will go into production this summer in Los Angeles.

“I couldn’t be more proud of the show that we were able to create with David A. Arnold and Nickelodeon,” Will Packer, the series’ executive producer, said in a statement. “That Girl Lay Lay is the series that so many kids need in their lives today for so many reasons, and I can’t wait for everyone to see all the adventures coming in season two.”

Arnold, creator and showrunner of That Girl Lay Lay, also said, “I’m so excited to continue this journey with Lay Lay, Nickelodeon and all the talented actors, writers and crew that make this show the hit that it is,” said creator and showrunner David A. Arnold. “Stay tuned because we have so much more fun coming!”

The series stars High as Lay Lay, a computer avatar who comes into the real world and gains a best friend, Sadie (Gabrielle Nevaeh Green). The second season continues Lay Lay’s adventures. According to the description:

“Season two of the series will bring more music and magical powers as the two best friends continue to go on even more exciting adventures, working to fulfill Lay Lay’s desire to experience everything that comes with being a real teenager.”

The series also stars Peyton Perrine III, Tiffany Daniels and Thomas Hobson.

The series is part of High’s overall deal with Nickleodeon, which also includes the opportunity “to develop original multiform programming.” Nickelodeon’s deal also includes High’s music career and the creation of consumer products.

High has been nominated for an NAACP Image Award in the “Outstanding Performance by a Youth (Series, Special, Television Movie or Limited Series)” category.
