After making history, Bachelor in Paradise‘s Riley Christian and Maurissa Gunn, the first Black couple to ever come from The Bachelor franchise, confirmed that they are no longer a couple. This news comes just three months after their engagement aired on Bachelor in Paradise. The history-making engagement made S&A’s 20 Best Reality TV/Unscripted Moments of 2021 list.

The couple met on season 7 of Bachelor in Paradise, predating the first Black couple to come from The Bachelorette, Michelle Young and Nayte Olukoya. Gunn and Christian we’re one of the three couples that got engaged on BIP season 7.

Christian proposed to Gunn on a beach in Mexico. The two seemed to have found love in paradise. Posting each other to their social media, it appeared things were headed in the right direction. However, it appears that the honeymoon phase is over.

After the holidays, the duo cleaned their social media accounts of all pictures with each other.

As reported by Hollywood Life, Gunn began posting subliminal messages to her Instagram story that led fans to believe that there may be trouble in paradise. They didn’t appear on each other’s social media pages after the holidays, indirectly confirming that they were done. Gunn was no longer wearing her engagement ring and one post included the cryptic message, “All that glitters is not gold.”

It wasn’t until the official statement was released that fans knew Christian and Gunn were over.

In a joint statement released to People, Christian and Gunn stated, “We have decided to go our separate ways. Never did we imagine this, but we’ve come to a point where we both need to work on ourselves…We’ve appreciated everyone’s love and support so far throughout our journey and we just ask that you please respect our privacy as we navigate through this.”

Fans are hoping that the pair can work through their issues, so only time will tell.
