The Bachelorette season 19 is historic in the fact that it will have two leading women selecting their suitor at the same time.

Ahead of the premiere on July 11, S&A Unscripted spoke to new host Jesse Palmer about the new season on ABC and what to expect.

Rachel Recchia and Gabby Windey, the runner-ups of The Bachelor season 26 with Clayton Echard, were both selected to be The Bachelorette.

On both ladies leading the season, Palmer joked, “You’re going to need a notepad [laughs]. You’re just going to have to be taking this and put a line down the middle– you got Gabby’s guys and Rachel’s guys and you’re just kind of following it. There’s a lot to connect.”

“I think a big storyline going into this was, and the big question, how is this going to work? None of us knew,” he explained. “We talked about that on After The Final Rose when we announced Rachel and Gabby being the Bachelorettes, how are you going to do this? How are you going to decide who’s dating who and who’s going on the dates? What’s going to happen? There were a lot of scenarios that we couldn’t prepare for or plan for, and Rachel and Gabby never could imagine they would have to live through and go through. They deserve a lot of credit because they really took control of this thing, made a lot of really tough decisions, broke a lot of…well, set their own rules, really made their own rules and went into unchartered territory a lot of the time and supported each other through this. That’s the most important thing.”

He calls the season a “unique” experience, that for fans, will be “different than anything they’ve ever seen before in the franchise.”

In teasing what to expect, he said, “What I can say is that there will be things people have just never seen before and there will be situations that we’ve never come across because we’ve just never had this format before. Rachel and Gabby are going to have to make some decisions. They’re going to have to have some conversations that I think are going to be so compelling for people, and I think their connection, [and] their friendship, is really going to become apparent. I think their ability to support each other through some really tough moments, I think, is one of the biggest themes in this upcoming season. It’s really special.”
