'The Black Power Mixtape 1967 – 1975' Is Coming To Book Format In February. Preorder Your Copy

I was just informed that The Black Power Mixtape 1967 – 1975 – Swedish director Göran Hugo Olsson’s acclaimed feature documentary which provides audiences with a *remixed* look at the black liberation struggle in the United States during the years in the film’s title – is coming to book format.

To be published on paperback by Haymarket Books, it’ll go on sale at your local or online book store, starting February 4, 2014.

The book, which will also be titled The Black Power Mixtape 1967 – 1975, will include historical speeches and interviews by: Stokely Carmichael (Kwame Ture), Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Eldridge Cleaver, Bobby Seale, Huey P. Newton, Emile de Antonio, and Angela Davis.

And just like in the feature documentary film, which offered a treasure trove of fresh archival information about the Black Power movement, the book will also include new commentary from Erykah Badu, Talib Kweli, Harry Belafonte, Kathleen Cleaver, Robin Kelley, Abiodun Oyewole, Sonia Sanchez, John Forte, and Questlove.

Olsson is listed as editor of the book, with Danny Glover penning the book’s preface, which also features contributions by Angela Davis.

It’ll be 192 pages.

That’s all the information I received on it. When I learn more, I’ll share here. But it sounds like it’s essentially the film as we know it, transferred to book format, without much divergence.

Amazon.com has a list price of$16.58. You can preorder a copy HERE.

Here’s the film’s trailer again, as a refresher (it’s currently streaming on Netflix by the way, for those who’ve never seen it):
