'The Buccaneers: Apple TV+'s Potential Answer To 'Bridgerton' Sets Alisha Boe And 5 More As Leads

Apple TV+ has ordered new drama series that could be the streamer’s answer to Bridgerton.

The Buccaneers is based on Pulitzer Prize-winning author Edith Wharton’s unfinished final novel of the same name The series about American girls in 1870’s London will star Kristine Froseth, Alisha Boe, Josie Totah, Aubri Ibrag, Imogen Waterhouse and Mia Threapleton.

Here is the official synopsis of the upcoming eight-episode series:

Girls with money, men with power. New money, old secrets. A group of fun-loving young American girls explode into the tightly corseted London season of the 1870s, kicking off an Anglo-American culture clash as the land of the stiff upper lip is infiltrated by a refreshing disregard for centuries of tradition. Sent to secure husbands and titles, the buccaneers’ hearts are set on much more than that, and saying “I do” is just the beginning…

The buccaneers are Nan St. George (Froseth), Conchita Closson (Boe), Mabel Elmsworth (Totah), Lizzy Elmsworth (Ibrag), Jinny St. George (Waterhouse) and Honoria Marable (Threapleton).

The upcoming series is written by series creator Katherine Jakeways and directed by Susanna White.

Beth Willis George Faber (National Treasure, Collateral), serve as executive producers alongside Jakeways and White.

White is billed as the lead director of the series. Production is currently underway in Scotland.
