'The Equalizer' TV Reboot In The Works At CBS Starring Queen Latifah

'The Equalizer' TV Reboot In The Works At CBS Starring Queen Latifah

The Equalizer is coming back to television. CBS has given a pilot production commitment to another television series version of the story, produced by and starring Queen Latifah.

The project is from Andrew Marlowe and Terri Miller, Davis Entertainment, Queen Latifah’s Flavor Unit, Debra Martin Chase’s Martin Chase Productions, Universal Television and CBS TV Studios. Marlowe and Miller are the showrunners and writers.

According to Deadline, who broke the news, “The Equalizer stars Queen Latifah as an enigmatic figure who uses her extensive skills to help those with nowhere else to turn. This is a new take on the character played by Edward Woodward on the original series and by Denzel Washington in the movie franchise.”

The Equalizer was originally a television series on CBS from 1985-1989 with Woodard. It was adapted for film in 2014 starring Washington. A sequel, The Equalizer 2, was released last year.

Television-wise, Latifah is coming off of her starring turn in the Lee Daniels musical drama, Star. She will also take on the role of Ursula in The Little Mermaid Live! airing on ABC on Nov. 5.
