Apple TV+ has announced the premiere date and dropped new images from the upcoming, anticipated limited drama series, The Essex Serpent. The six-episode series will debut May 13.

The series is directed by Clio Barnard and written by Anaya Symon. Both Barnard and Symon serve as executive producers with Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman and Patrick Walters.

The cast is led by Claire Danes and Tom Hiddleston. Frank Dillane, Clémence Poésy and Hayley Squires also star.

Based on Sarah Perry’s bestselling, award-winning novel the series “follows London widow Cora Seaborne (Danes) who moves to Essex to investigate reports of a mythical serpent. She forms an unlikely bond with the village vicar (Hiddleston), but when tragedy strikes, locals accuse her of attracting the creature.”

The Essex Serpent joins other Apple TV+ programs, such as the new limited series WeCrashed starring Jared Leto and Anne Hathaway, the Korean, Japanese, and English-language drama Pachinko, and the upcoming Slow Horses, Shining Girls and bilingual series Now and Then.
