During Super Bowl LVII, the first full trailer for DC Comics/Warner Bros Pictures’ The Flash was released.
The oft-delayed film, which has gained attention due to the off-screen controversies surrounding its lead, Ezra Miller, is speeding into theaters this summer. The film’s release comes as a restructure of the WB’s DC Comics film universe by new heads James Gunn and Peter Safran.
Gunn notably said that he believes the film to be “probably one of the greatest superhero movies ever made.”
Directed by Andy Muschietti from a screenplay by Christina Hodson, the film also stars Sasha Calle as Supergirl, Kiersey Clemons as Iris West and both Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck as their versions of Bruce Wayne / Batman.
The official description for the film reads:
“Worlds collide in The Flash when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?”
