Following this weekend’s successful release of The Gray Man, Netflix is solidifying its ambitions for the franchise to develop into a major spy series with a sequel and spinoff movie in development.

'The Gray Man' stars Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, Regé-Jean Page, Ana de Armas, Alfre Woodard and more.

The story follows “CIA operative Court Gentry (Ryan Gosling), aka, Sierra Six. Plucked from a federal penitentiary and recruited by his handler, Donald Fitzroy (Billy Bob Thornton), Gentry was once a highly-skilled, Agency-sanctioned merchant of death. But now the tables have turned and Six is the target, hunted across the globe by Lloyd Hansen (Chris Evans), a former cohort at the CIA, who will stop at nothing to take him out. Agent Dani Miranda (Ana de Armas) has his back. He’ll need it.”

The Gray Man directors Joe and Anthony Russo and actor Ryan Gosling are now working on a sequel. For Roth Kirschenbaum Films, Joe Roth, Jeffrey Kirschenbaum, Mike Larocco and AGBO will produce.

Stephen McFeely (‘Avengers: Endgame,’ ‘Captain America: Civil War’), who co-wrote The Gray Man, is pegged as the writer for the sequel.

Screenwriters Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese (Deadpool, Zombieland) are also developing a spin-off movie that will examine a different aspect of The Gray Man universe. The plot summary is being kept under wraps.

Anthony and Joe Russo released a statement on the huge announcement, saying:

“The audience reaction to The Gray Man has been nothing short of phenomenal. We are so appreciative of the enthusiasm that fans across the world have had for this film. With so many amazing characters in the movie, we had always intended for The Gray Man to be part of an expanded universe, and we are thrilled that Netflix is announcing a sequel with Ryan, as well as a second script that we’re excited to talk about soon.”

Netflix Head of Global Film, Scott Stuber said: “With The Gray Man, the Russos delivered an edge-of-your-seat spectacle that audiences around the world are loving. We’re excited to continue to partner with them and the team at AGBO as they build out The Gray Man universe.”

Shadow and Act chatted with Gosling, the Russos and more earlier this month

“I always wanted to make a big action movie. I just they were my first love and hat made me fall in love with movies,” Gosling told us. “So I’ve always wanted to do one, but as you know, there’s a lot of good ones. And finding the right one took a while. But when I got this, I realized that this was it. It’s the Russos, who as much as I thought, I love action movies. They loved the more. Ane this character – I thought this character was really interesting and somebody I could have fun playing.
