'The Idol' Teaser: First Footage From HBO's 'Sick And Twisted' Drama From The Weeknd, A24 And Sam Levinson

HBO has dropped the first trailer for The Idol, which stars and is from Abel Tesfaye aka The Weeknd. It is also from Euphoria creator Sam Levinson and A24.

The series is co-created by Tesfaye, Levinson and Reza Fahim and “set against the backdrop of the music industry. The plot follows a self-help guru and cult leader who develops a complicated relationship with an up-and-coming pop idol.” The up and coming pop idol is played by Lily-Rose Depp with the guru played by Tesfaye.

The series made headlines a few months back when its director Amy Seimetz, who was set to direct all 6 episodes, departed the project.

The series is also set to star Troye Sivan, Suzanna Son, along with recurring cast members Melanie Liburd, Tunde Adebimpe, Elizabeth Berkley Lauren, Nico Hiraga and Anne Heche — however, it is unclear if the change in the show’s creative after Seimetz’s exit impacted any of this.

Other executive producers are Kevin Turen, Ashley Levinson, Nick Hall, Sara E. White and BRON’s Aaron Gilbert.

Watch the teaser below, which says it is "the sleaziest love story in Hollywood," from the "sick and twisted minds" of Tesfaye and Levinson
