The ratings are in, and it looks like The Mayor has started off OK, and considering circumstances, one could say that it has started off good.

It debuted to a 1.2 demo rating at 4.1 million viewers.

The other ABC comedies — The Middle,  1.6, Fresh Off The Boat, 1.3 and black-ish, 1.5

Although Mayor’s numbers may not seem too good, it is imperative to look at the bigger picture.

The show has to go up against the opus which is This Is Us. When you look at it compared to its competitors in the timeslot, it bested its comedy competition on the other networks and was on par with the 9:30 slot of CBS’s drama, Bull.

It is also the biggest in-season audience in two years for that time slot on ABC and matched that time slot’s best demo number since December 2015.

The show also retained 80 percent of its lead-in from black-ish and fared better than its follow-up, Kevin (Probably) Saves The World), which got a 1.1 in the demo.

The Mayor deserves all of the praise and has received favorable reviews from critics. However, it’s not out of the woods. So, if you want to see more of the show and want to see it remain on the air, tune in to ensure its safety.

The show stars Brandon Micheal Hall as Courtney Rose, an outspoken, idealistic rapper who runs for office as a publicity stunt and actually gets elected. He surprises everyone (including himself) when he has a natural knack for the job and slowly transforms City Hall. Series regulars are Yvette Nicole Brown, Bernard David Jones, Marcel Spears, Lea Michele, and David Spade.
